Confluence Data Center Is Being Discontinued:
BlueSpice as a Solid Alternative
17. September 2026
A recent article in ComputerWeekly addresses the announced discontinuation of Confluence Data Center and the question of when it remains worthwhile to operate a knowledge platform in-house. The article also mentions BlueSpice as an alternative for companies that want to retain control over their data, systems, and operating models.
Atlassian will discontinue Confluence Data Center on March 28, 2029. For many companies, this marks the beginning of the search for a long-term solution for their knowledge platform. Not every organization wants to or is able to make a complete switch to the public cloud. Reasons for this may include data protection, compliance requirements, existing integrations, or the desire for greater technological independence.
BlueSpice as an Alternative to Confluence
BlueSpice offers an open-source-based knowledge and collaboration platform that can be operated both on-premises and in the private cloud. This allows companies to retain control over their data and integrate the platform into their existing IT landscape.
For organizations with high standards for digital sovereignty, security, and compliance in particular, self-hosting therefore remains an attractive option.
Prepare for Migration Early
The transition from Confluence to a new platform should be planned well in advance. In addition to pages and attachments, permissions, structures, macros, and existing integrations also play an important role.
BlueSpice helps companies analyze existing Confluence systems and prepare for the migration in a structured manner. This makes it possible to determine early on which content can be transferred, where adjustments are needed, and how the transition can be implemented step by step.
The end of Confluence Data Center thus also offers an opportunity to reassess your knowledge strategy – and to choose a platform that aligns with your long-term requirements for control, operations, and autonomy.
